Hideo Kojima a annoncé que son très attendu Physint, successeur spirituel de Metal Gear, ne sortira pas avant cinq ou six ans minimum.

Le légendaire concepteur de jeux a révélé ce calendrier dans une interview avec Le Film Français, expliquant que ses ambitions cinématographiques devront attendre après la sortie de ce premier vrai jeu d'« espionnage-action » depuis son départ controversé de Konami en 2015.

« Recruter des offres de développement sérieuses n’a jamais été un problème depuis que je suis indépendant », a déclaré Kojima (via la traduction de l’utilisateur Red Kong XIX de ResetEra). « Bien que nous soyons en plein développement de Death Stranding 2, Physint reste en production active – un projet qui nécessitera au moins cinq années supplémentaires. »

« Peut-être qu’alors, je ferai enfin le saut vers le cinéma », a-t-il ajouté. « Le cinéma a façonné mon ADN créatif. Réaliser serait mon plus bel hommage. Le temps devient précieux avec les années – je veux poursuivre ce rêve tant que c’est encore possible ! »

Herman Hulst, directeur de PlayStation Studios, avait dévoilé Physint lors de la conférence de janvier 2024, mais les mises à jour ont été rares depuis. Évoquant initialement une expérience hybride entre jeu et film, Kojima a ensuite précisé sur X/Twitter qu'il s'agirait de « la prochaine évolution du divertissement numérique », où les standards cinématographiques redéfiniront le storytelling interactif.

Le projet s'ajoute à la production chargée de Kojima Productions, incluant Death Stranding 2 et le mystérieux OD – une collaboration Xbox avec des talents d’Hollywood comme Hunter Schafer et Jordan Peele. Parallèlement, Kojima est producteur exécutif de l’adaptation cinématographique de Death Stranding par A24.

Avec Death Stranding 2: On The Beach qui sortira le 26 juin 2025, Norman Reedus, star de la franchise, a récemment laissé entendre sa participation potentielle au film, confiant à IGN qu'il reprendrait "absolument" son rôle à l’écran.

Après avoir partagé divers concepts de jeux abandonnés – dont une intrigante mécanique de « Forgetting Game » –, Kojima a également révélé avoir laissé à son équipe une clé USB contenant des idées de jeux destinées à être développées après sa mort, assurant ainsi la pérennité de son héritage créatif.
