EA bucks trend, holds game prices steady

Author : Nathan Update : Dec 25,2025

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed it will not increase game prices, despite competitors like Microsoft and Nintendo moving to $80 pricing.

During the company's latest earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson emphasized EA's commitment to "delivering exceptional quality and outstanding value to players," citing the success of titles like Split Fiction, which has surpassed 4 million copies sold.

"Our pricing strategy today differs significantly from a decade ago," Wilson explained. "While physical disc sales remain part of our business, they represent a much smaller share now. Our pricing spans from free-to-play options to premium deluxe editions."

"Whether offering content priced at $1, $10, or $100, our goal remains consistent – to provide unmatched quality and value," Wilson stated. "History has shown that combining these elements creates sustainable business growth."

CFO Stuart Canfield reinforced this position: "We currently don't anticipate any changes to our pricing strategy."

This announcement contrasts with Microsoft's recent decision to increase Xbox hardware, accessory, and upcoming game prices to $79.99 for major holiday releases.

The news reflects broader industry trends, with AAA games transitioning from $60 to $70 pricing over recent years. Nintendo plans $80 pricing for Mario Kart World and other Switch 2 exclusives, while the Switch 2 console itself launches at $449 – a controversial price point reflecting current economic realities.

EA's stance suggests upcoming titles like EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and Battlefield will maintain their $70 standard pricing.

The announcement follows EA's recent workforce reduction, affecting approximately 300 employees including about 100 at Respawn Entertainment, developers of Apex Legends.
