REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling are Getting Major Tweaks, Says Developer

REPO’s developer introduces dynamic difficulty scaling with new mechanics every 10 levels, starting with the revamped Overcharge system. Discover what’s changing and how player feedback is shaping the game during its open beta phase.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

REPO has launched an open beta for its upcoming update, gathering crucial feedback from the community. One of the most notable changes centers around the Overcharge mechanic—a core gameplay feature that’s receiving a significant rework.

Overcharge enables players to counter enemies by lifting and slamming them into hard surfaces or hurling them away from their squad. However, this powerful ability comes with risk: an overcharge meter builds as the ability is used, and if it fills completely, the player will explode.

Originally available from the start, Overcharge will now be introduced at level 10. This change is part of a broader plan to scale difficulty progressively—Semiwork will introduce a new gameplay mechanic every 10 levels, starting at level 10, then again at levels 20, 30, and beyond. Overcharge is the first of these escalating challenges.

These mechanics won’t just increase difficulty—they’ll also be woven into the game’s narrative. As Semiwork explains, “This system will be tied to the lore. It’s not just a random gimmick. There’s a deeper reason behind it, and we’ll reveal more details soon.”

Developers Dive Into Open Beta Matchmaking

During the recent open beta, developers from Semiwork jumped into live matches—playing incognito alongside regular players. This hands-on approach allowed them to observe gameplay behavior and gather direct feedback.

Pontus Sundstrom, a developer at Semiwork, shared his experience: “I’ve actually played with many of you—incognito, through random matchmaking on the servers.” He added, “I’ve been asking questions, seeing what you enjoy, what works, and what doesn’t.”

The team was encouraged by the positive response to the new content and remains committed to refining REPO based on player insights. With community input driving development, future updates promise even more depth and polish. Stay tuned—more announcements are on the horizon.
