Bloodborne PC hits near-stable 60 FPS in new emulator
Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan recently put Bloodborne through its paces using the ShadPS4 emulator, analyzing gameplay performance and various technical enhancements crafted by modders.
Morgan conducted his assessment using ShadPS4 build 0.5.1, a customized version developed by diegolix29 based on raphaelthegreat's branch. After evaluating multiple builds, this particular iteration delivered optimal results on his test rig featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card.
The reviewer strongly advised installing the Vertex Explosion Fix mod to eliminate graphical anomalies involving distorted polygon rendering. While this modification disables character facial customization, it effectively resolves persistent visual glitches. Beyond this tweak, no additional mods prove necessary - the emulator itself includes comprehensive features through its specialized menu system, offering options for 60fps gameplay, resolution scaling up to 4K, and chromatic aberration removal.
Morgan observed generally stable 60fps performance throughout testing, though occasional stuttering did occur. His evaluation extended to higher resolutions including 1440p and 1800p, where improved visual fidelity came at the cost of decreased stability and increased crash frequency. Based on these findings, Morgan suggests sticking to either native 1080p or slightly enhanced 1152p resolutions.
The Digital Foundry expert expressed amazement at the mere existence of functional PS4 emulation, praising the ShadPS4 development team's remarkable achievement. While acknowledging current technical limitations, Morgan confirmed Bloodborne runs impressively well via emulation, marking significant progress in console emulation technology.
