Choi Ji-Won, the director of Lies of P, found a fresh perspective after engaging with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared his thoughts with Eurogamer on the evolution of the Souls genre. Known for his admiration of FromSoftware's work, which is evident in Lies of P, Choi expressed his excitement about Elden Ring: Nightreign, saying, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."

This experience has led Choi to consider branching out into multiplayer games. He stated, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

Despite his affinity for FromSoftware's titles, Choi emphasized that his inspirations are not confined to a single game. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi revealed that the Overture DLC is expected to take 15-20 hours for experienced players to complete, packed with numerous bosses and additional content that the team originally hoped to include in the base game. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."

Overture serves as a prequel, set in the final days of Krat's haunting, where players will follow a legendary Stalker. This expansion incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and concepts that couldn't be included in the initial launch due to production limitations. Choi likened Overture to a Director's Cut, suggesting it completes the game's narrative arc.

He noted, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." The overwhelming support from the community post-launch inspired the team to fulfill their vision through this expansion.

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not connect directly to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the game offered a glimpse into potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director's Letter that a sequel is in the works, though details remain scarce.

Choi emphasized the team's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."
