"Being massive Star Wars fans, we aimed to encapsulate the show's magic on the tabletop," says co-creator Josh Beppler. "The expansion was inevitable—season two's wealth of beloved characters gave us incredible material to work with."
Clan of Two introduces fan favorites like Ahsoka Tano and Fennec Shand, plus formidable adversaries including the Krayt Dragon. "Our selection process balances personal passion with fan popularity," explains Shatterpoint lead designer Will Shick. "Sometimes a character's sculpt potential or office enthusiasm drives inclusion, while other choices reflect current fan trends."
The upcoming Terror from Below set exemplifies this approach with Riff Tamson, a Karkarodon warrior, introducing the new 'Aquatic' keyword. "These thematic keywords encourage team synergies without restricting creativity," Shick notes. "Players who embrace narrative pairings unlock powerful combinations, though min-max strategies remain viable."

"Design-wise, we prioritize subtle incentives over rigid rules," Shick elaborates. "Characters gain enhanced abilities when paired thematically—it rewards immersion without punishing alternative playstyles."
Star Wars Unlimited adopts keywords differently, exemplified by its evolving Force mechanic. "Bases now generate Force tokens for special abilities," designer Joe O'Neill explains. "This approach ensures consistency while preserving deck-building depth—you sacrifice energy conversion options when specializing in Force strategies."
Co-designer John Leto adds: "Thematic locations like crystal cave bases reinforce the Force's lore relevance across the set." This balancing act between mechanics and theme characterizes Star Wars game design.

The Mandalorian expansion directly addresses player feedback, doubling mission content and enhancing difficulty options. "Cinematic duel decks and challenging event cards cater to different playstyles," Beppler says. "New character synergies breathe life into existing content while advanced mechanics reward veteran players."
Shatterpoint counters scenario variety concerns through upcoming campaign modes. "Our Key Operations introduce narrative play," shares Atomic Mass Games marketing director Ross Thompson. "Galactic Legends later this year will feature overpowered characters like Vader for asymmetric battles."

The developers embrace post-release balancing through print-and-play updates. "We're committed to preserving collection value," states Shick. "When players like Anakin and Ahsoka, they should always feel viable—game quality shouldn't diminish with new releases."
This player-first philosophy resonates throughout the teams. "We trade cards internally like fans," laughs Unlimited designer Joe O'Neil. When creators passionately engage with their own products, it signals exceptional dedication—and ultimately, better games for all Star Wars enthusiasts.
