Take-Two Boss Unconcerned by Plummeting PS5 and Xbox Sales, Insists GTA 6 Will Cause 'A Meaningful Uptick in Console Sales' in 2025
The much-anticipated *Grand Theft Auto 6* is slated to hit the shelves in fall 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, leaving PC gamers out in the cold—for now. This decision mirrors Rockstar Games' traditional approach to releasing their titles, yet it raises questions about whether this strategy aligns with today's gaming landscape, where PCs play an increasingly pivotal role in a game's success.
In a recent interview with IGN, Strauss Zelnick, the head of Take-Two Interactive, hinted at the eventual PC release of GTA 6. Reflecting on the launch strategy of other titles like *Civilization 7*, Zelnick noted, "With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This statement suggests that while PC gamers may have to wait, they won't be left out forever.
Rockstar's history with PC releases has been mixed, with past titles often arriving on the platform long after their console counterparts. The developer's relationship with the PC modding community has also been contentious at times, leading some to hope that GTA 6 might mark a change in their approach. However, with a fall 2025 release date firmly in place for consoles, PC players might not see the game until 2026 at the earliest.
The decision to delay the PC version could be seen as a missed opportunity, especially considering Zelnick's revelation that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales, or even more in some cases. This comes at a time when sales of current-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S are declining, and with no next-gen consoles announced by Sony or Microsoft, the industry might soon need the likes of PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox.
Zelnick emphasized the growing importance of the PC market, stating, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue." This suggests that despite the initial exclusion, Rockstar recognizes the significance of the PC platform.
The launch of GTA 6 is expected to boost console sales significantly, as fans rush to experience the game on the latest hardware. Zelnick confidently predicted, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles... I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule."
Speculation has arisen about the PlayStation 5 Pro potentially being the ultimate platform for GTA 6, though tech experts doubt it will achieve 4K at 60fps. As the gaming world eagerly awaits more details, the eventual PC release of GTA 6 remains a key point of interest for many gamers.
