Oblivion Remastered Launches on Steam
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered had a major launch on Steam, achieving a peak concurrent player count of over 180,000 on its release day.
Following Bethesda's surprise release of Oblivion Remastered yesterday, April 22, the game quickly rose to the top of Steam’s global bestsellers list by revenue. It surpassed titles like Valve's Counter-Strike 2, the viral sensation Schedule I, and Blizzard's Overwatch 2, which also received a major recent update.
Oblivion Remastered was also the fourth most-played game on Steam yesterday, ranking just below Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2. It is currently the most-played single-player RPG on Steam, ahead of the resurgent Baldur’s Gate 3, and has earned a 'Very Positive' user review rating.
Of course, Steam statistics don't tell the whole story, and Oblivion Remastered's success goes beyond these numbers. As a Microsoft-owned title (Microsoft owns Bethesda's parent company, ZeniMax Media), the game launched day-one on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers. It's likely that the game will see significant engagement through the subscription service alone.
Additionally, the PlayStation 5 and standard Xbox Series X and S releases contribute to the player base. While neither Microsoft nor Sony disclose player counts, the true peak concurrent player count for Oblivion Remastered on launch day is undoubtedly much higher than 180,000.
This already appears to be a major success, although Bethesda has not yet announced official sales or total player numbers. Player figures are expected to grow further as Oblivion Remastered heads into its first weekend on the market.

Developed by the renowned studio Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered includes a long list of visual and gameplay enhancements. It supports 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, as expected, but the improvements go much deeper. Everything from the leveling mechanics and character creation to combat animations and user interface has been refined. The game also introduces extensive new dialogue, a fully realized third-person view, and advanced lip-sync technology. These updates have been well received by fans, with many considering the release more of a remake than a simple remaster. Bethesda has acknowledged this feedback and explained its decision to pursue a remaster.
The original The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion launched in 2006 as the successor to the beloved Morrowind, initially on PC and Xbox 360, with a PlayStation 3 version arriving in 2007. The game is set in the fictional province of Cyrodiil, where players must stop a fanatical cult attempting to open portals to the demonic realm of Oblivion.
