Naughty Dog's Intergalactic Delayed Beyond 2026, Druckmann Says 'It's Incredible'

With fans eagerly anticipating the release of *The Witcher 4*, it seems they'll need to wait until 2027 at the earliest. The same timeline applies to Naughty Dog’s recently announced game, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirmed on ResetEra that neither title will launch next year, setting the stage for a 2027 release window for both.

As with *The Witcher 4*, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* faces speculation about its target platform. Will it be exclusive to the PlayStation 5, or will it aim for the next generation with the PlayStation 6? Or, perhaps most likely, will it be a cross-gen title? If *Intergalactic* skips the PS5 and heads straight to the PS6, Naughty Dog would miss out on releasing a brand new game for the current generation. So far, the studio has focused on ports, remasters, and remakes for the PS5, including *The Last of Us Part II*, *Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection*, *The Last of Us Part I*, and *The Last of Us Part II Remastered*.

*Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, boasting a star-studded cast. Tati Gabrielle, known from the Uncharted movie, takes on the role of protagonist Jordan A. Mun, while Kumail Nanjiani, from Marvel's *Eternals*, portrays a character named Colin Graves. Fans have dissected the trailer to identify additional cast members, with a crew photo revealing even more faces.

Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann, the director of *The Last of Us*, shared further insights into the development of *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. In an interview with Alex Garland, the writer of the zombie movie *28 Days Later*, Druckmann revealed that the game has been in development for four years. He humorously reflected on the backlash received for *The Last of Us Part II* and expressed a desire to explore themes of faith and religion in *Intergalactic*.

Set in an alternate historical timeline, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* delves into a significant religion that has evolved over time. The narrative follows a bounty hunter who crash-lands on a mysterious planet, isolated from communication for 600 years. Druckmann emphasized the game’s focus on isolation and mystery, aiming to immerse players in an environment where they must unravel the planet's history to find a way off.

Assuming a 2027 release, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* will have been in development for six years by the time it hits the shelves. Despite the lengthy wait, Druckmann, speaking to IGN at the premiere of *The Last of Us* Season 2, assured fans that the game is not only playable but also "really good." He hinted at the depth of the game beyond what has been shown so far, promising an immersive experience.
