The Minecraft Movie, featuring stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black, has shattered box office records by surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to claim the title of the largest domestic debut for a video game adaptation. It raked in an impressive $157 million in North America, eclipsing the $146 million opening weekend haul of The Super Mario Bros. Movie from April 2023, which still holds the record as the highest-grossing video game movie ever.

Globally, A Minecraft Movie added another $144 million from international markets, bringing its worldwide opening weekend total to a staggering $301 million. With a production budget of $150 million before marketing expenses, the film is already showing signs of profitability for Warner Bros.

Based on Mojang's Minecraft—the best-selling video game of all time and still a global favorite—the movie has been enhanced with movie tie-in DLC to leverage its cinematic release. Owned by Microsoft, Minecraft's enduring popularity is evident in the film's success.

IGN gave A Minecraft Movie a 6/10 rating, praising director Jared Hess for infusing the kid-friendly adventure with a unique and humorous comic flair, especially in the film's more subdued first half. For those who have seen the movie, IGN offers an in-depth analysis of A Minecraft Movie's ending and post-credits scene, featuring insights from director Jared Hess and Minecraft's Torfi Frans Ólafsson.

In contrast, Disney's live-action adaptation of Snow White is facing challenges at the box office, accumulating only $168.4 million globally ($77.5 million domestic and $90.9 million international). Given its hefty $250 million production budget, a miraculous turnaround akin to that of Mufasa: The Lion King seems unlikely.
