Dawnwalker Devs Aim for Witcher 3 Quality
The Blood of Dawnwalker Aims for AAA Quality
The upcoming open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers, is setting its sights high. Despite being a new studio's debut game, the team at Rebel Wolves is ambitiously aiming to match the quality of CDPR's acclaimed The Witcher 3, but in a more compact package. Read on to discover more about this exciting title and what its directors have to say.
30-40 Hour Main Campaign
In an interview with Games Radar, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, revealed the team's lofty ambitions. Despite being a smaller studio, they are striving to achieve the same level of quality seen in The Witcher 3. When questioned about the game's classification between indie and AAA, Tomaszkiewicz clarified, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."
Rebel Wolves may be a new studio, but its team is far from inexperienced. Comprised of former CDPR developers who worked on both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, the studio was founded by Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz and his brother Konrad to allow for greater creative freedom in their game development, free from the constraints of a large AAA studio like CDPR.
Tomaszkiewicz emphasized that while their game may be smaller in scope, the focus is on delivering robust quality. He stated, "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He mentioned that The Blood of Dawnwalker targets a 30-40 hour campaign, shorter than typical AAA titles. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, sandbox open-world dark fantasy RPG set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers and embarks on a quest to save his ailing sister. This journey will lead him through a dark and hostile world filled with unique challenges and adversaries.
While a specific release date has not yet been announced, The Blood of Dawnwalker is planned for launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal in Summer 2025.
