Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC Reportedly Canceled by WB
A planned paid story expansion for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy has been canceled, as reported by Bloomberg. Warner Bros. had intended to release this additional content alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game this year. However, the project was abruptly halted this week. Sources told Bloomberg that Warner Bros. felt the content in the DLC did not justify the price they were considering. When approached for comment, Warner Bros. declined to provide a statement on the matter.
This decision comes amid broader restructuring efforts within Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been grappling with financial challenges. Earlier in the year, Warner Bros. canceled a planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio responsible for it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs at Rocksteady occurred just last September.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise to its portfolio. The company has stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus to fewer, yet larger, gaming franchises. The original game has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 30 million copies.
