"Top Gun: Maverick Director to Helm New Miami Vice Movie"
Joseph Kosinski, acclaimed for directing films like Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is reportedly set to helm a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy has been tapped to pen the script, building on an initial draft from Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy's recent work includes writing multiple episodes of the Star Wars series Andor, crafted by his brother, Tony Gilroy.
Miami Vice is a legendary NBC police drama, created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, which aired for five seasons from 1984 to 1989. Starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as detectives Crockett and Tubbs, the series revolutionized television with its innovative style and sound. It was previously adapted into a 2006 film by Michael Mann, featuring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.
While specifics on the new Miami Vice movie are scarce at the moment, it is confirmed that this project won't be Kosinski's immediate follow-up to his upcoming film F1, set for release this June. This timeline should allow Kosinski ample opportunity to prepare for the new venture, perhaps even deciding on the perfect Ferrari for the iconic Miami backdrop.
