"Switch 2 Exclusive: Duskbloods' Hub Keeper - A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership"
FromSoftware has revealed fresh details about *The Duskbloods*, its highly anticipated exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2. The collaboration with Nintendo appears to have influenced more than just the game’s overall direction—it has also inspired a notable shift in design, particularly with the introduction of the game’s new hub companion, a character that breaks away from FromSoftware's typically dark and haunting aesthetic in favor of something unexpectedly charming.
During the recent Switch 2 Direct presentation, the trailer for *The Duskbloods* ended with a close-up of a winged rat-like creature adorned with glowing glyphs, staring directly into the camera. Fans were quick to notice the unusual design, sparking curiosity about the character’s purpose. As it turns out, this whimsical figure serves as the player’s guide throughout the game—an evolution of FromSoftware’s iconic hub keepers seen in previous titles like *Dark Souls* and *Elden Ring*.
“That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the *Dark Souls* series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance,” explained director Hidetaka Miyazaki in a recent interview with Nintendo. He went on to say, “I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership.”
When pressed further on what he meant by "Nintendo-esque," Miyazaki chuckled and added, “We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter).”
FromSoftware’s shrine keepers have long served as pivotal figures in their games’ worlds—Melina, the Maiden in Black, the Doll, and others all act as recurring touchpoints, offering upgrades, lore, and encouragement. With *The Duskbloods* being a PvPvE experience, however, it remains to be seen exactly how this new companion will assist players navigating its multiplayer-influenced world. Miyazaki hinted that the development team has been experimenting with “a lot of new and interesting ideas,” suggesting players should prepare for surprises when the game launches on Switch 2 in 2026.
Stay tuned for more updates on *The Duskbloods*, including reactions from *Bloodborne* fans and insights from Miyazaki on whether FromSoftware plans to continue focusing on single-player experiences.
