Stellar Blade, the first non-gacha game from Shift Up to hit the U.S., has earned its stripes with strong reviews. It's celebrated for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning graphics, a killer soundtrack, and, of course, its provocative character design.

In our review, Mitchell Saltzman noted that "Stellar Blade stands out as a gorgeous and well-crafted action game with very impressive strengths and very clear weaknesses. While its story and characters may lack depth, and some RPG elements such as sidequests feel repetitive, the game's action compensates with its rock-solid Sekiro-inspired combat system, a vast array of monstrous enemies, and plenty of hidden treasures that encourage thorough exploration." IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though personally, I found it even more engaging and would have scored it higher. It just missed our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release, requiring at least six months on the market to qualify.

Stellar Blade is a technically demanding title. I play it in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. However, if you're the proud owner of a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode while still experiencing excellent framerates. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players will enjoy Stellar Blade in 4K resolution at 50fps or higher, with smoother gameplay. You'll also notice improved grain and detail in PSSR upscale mode. Plus, the HFR (high framerate) option supports a fluid experience at 80fps, provided you have a 120hz display."
