"Silksong Fans Hopeful for News at Nintendo Direct Next Week"

Author : Gabriel Update : Apr 21,2025

While some gaming communities, like the fans of Tomodachi Life, are celebrating the announcements from today's Nintendo Direct, others are left feeling let down. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is once again reaching for their clown makeup after the long-awaited sequel failed to appear in the showcase.

Fortunately, another opportunity awaits next week.

Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been riding a rollercoaster of anticipation and disappointment for quite some time. A visit to their subreddit or Discord server reveals a constant stream of memes and "silkposts" filled with fantasies, predictions, and humor about a game that feels perpetually on the horizon. We've previously covered their reactions during last year's back-to-back Directs, which left them reeling, and again in January when a chocolate cake photo sparked an intense but fruitless search for an alternate reality game (ARG). From an outsider's perspective, it's challenging to discern whether their disappointment is genuine or if it's all part of a tight-knit community's playful response to each new showcase announcement.

Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, the upcoming showcase feels more significant for Silksong fans. Hollow Knight initially launched on PC but truly gained fame with its release on the Nintendo Switch the following year, forging a strong association with Nintendo's platform. The anticipation surrounding the next showcase is heightened by its focus on the Nintendo Switch 2, expected to reveal both the new hardware and potential launch titles. This setting could be the perfect stage for Silksong to make its re-debut. While the event will likely feature numerous first-party titles, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's popularity and anticipation will secure it a spot in this grand showcase, and crucially, that the game is finally ready for release.

Are the hopes of Silksong fans about to be dashed once more, perhaps for the 50th time since the game's announcement? It's quite possible. However, there are some signs that a release date announcement might be approaching. A recent Xbox Wire post on indies briefly mentioned Silksong, though it might have been a playful tease. More intriguing are the recent backend updates to the game's Steam listing, including a copyright year change. Yet, the community has been through numerous cycles of overhyping due to random listings and delistings on various console storefronts. So, the outcome remains uncertain.

The only thing we know for sure is what Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, stated in January following the cake incident: "Yes the game is real, progressing, and will release." All we can do now is wait and dream of what life will be like once Silksong is finally in our hands.

So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, folks!
