"Last of Us Season 4 Uncertain: Mazin Says Story Can't End in Season 3"
The critically acclaimed and wildly successful TV adaptation of *The Last of Us* has already been greenlit for a third season—announced even before the second season began. But what about a fourth? According to showrunner Craig Mazin, Season 4 isn’t just possible—it may be necessary.
In a recent interview with *Collider*, Mazin addressed the long-term future of the series, acknowledging that trying to wrap up the entire narrative from both Naughty Dog-developed games in just three seasons would be extremely ambitious. In fact, he noted, doing so would likely result in a Season 3 that “would take forever.” While there’s a “decent chance” Season 3 will be longer than its predecessor, he made it clear that “there’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season.”
Mazin expressed optimism about the show’s future, stating, “Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.” This suggests that while not officially confirmed yet, a fourth season is very much part of the plan if the series continues to meet expectations and maintain its strong viewership and critical reception.
