Adapted from BOOM! Studios' graphic novels by Arash Amel, Butterfly delivers "a character-driven spy thriller examining complex family relationships against the dangerous backdrop of international intelligence operations."
"The story follows David Jung (Kim), a brilliant but volatile ex-US intelligence officer living in South Korea whose carefully constructed life unravels when past decisions resurface. Hunted by Rebecca (Hardesty), a ruthless young assassin working for the shadowy Caddis organization, Jung must confront the consequences of his history while fighting for survival," the official synopsis reveals.
"Butterfly represents the realization of my long-held vision to merge American and Korean storytelling traditions," said Kim. "I'm incredibly proud of our creative team on both sides of the camera, and deeply grateful to Ken Woodruff, Boom! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and all our partners who helped bring this cross-cultural project to life."
The series features showrunner Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) co-creating with celebrated author Steph Cha. The ensemble cast includes Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim, with special appearances by Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.
