DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a brief clip of new footage, featuring John Cena in action. In the snippet, Cena's character smirks at the camera amidst a fiery backdrop, and is referred to as "a superhero now."

In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He shared this sentiment after recently completing the DI & Mix on the season premiere, underscoring his personal investment in the project.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in this new universe, succeeding last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements will carry over. Peacemaker is a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with Season 1 and now transitioning into the new DCU with Season 2.

Gunn has mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU are still under wraps. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This means John Cena will once again lead the cast, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events even influencing the series. This continuity ensures that fans will see how the broader DCU narrative unfolds and impacts individual stories like that of Peacemaker.
