"Overwatch Mobile: Nexon and Blizzard Ink New Deal"

Author : Nora Update : May 15,2025

The prospect of Overwatch on mobile devices has often seemed like a distant dream, particularly after Jason Schreier's book shed light on Blizzard's shelved plans for a mobile version. However, a fresh partnership between Korean developer Nexon and Blizzard might reignite this possibility.

The core of this new agreement centers around securing the publishing and development rights for the next installment in the beloved StarCraft real-time strategy (RTS) series. The competition was intense, with other giants like Krafton and Netmarble also vying for the opportunity. Should this deal be finalized, Nexon will take the helm in advancing the StarCraft franchise.

What's stirring even more excitement and curiosity are the reports that the bidding process also encompassed the publishing rights for an Overwatch mobile version. This revelation not only suggests that the mobile port is far from dead but hints at the potential development of an official sequel in the form of a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA).

Nerf thisThis wouldn't mark the first foray of Overwatch into the MOBA genre, as fans may recall Blizzard's previous push with Heroes of the Storm. It's conceivable that Heroes of the Storm could make its way to mobile platforms, possibly aligning with the proposed Overwatch MOBA.

Alternatively, a spin-off release remains a strong contender. However, the notion of this being an 'Overwatch 3' can be confidently dismissed, as it would represent a significant shift for a franchise traditionally focused on console and PC platforms.

Embracing its MOBA roots could prove advantageous for Overwatch, especially with new competitors like Marvel Rivals emerging on the scene. This might be the perfect moment for Blizzard and their publishing partners to take bold steps to revitalize this once-thriving franchise.
