Oscar Isaac Confirmed for Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors
Star Wars Celebration 2025 will feature an exciting appearance by Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac, igniting speculation about the return of his beloved character, Poe Dameron, to the iconic galaxy far, far away. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account announced Isaac's presence at the event, set to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20. This news comes after Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, made a similar appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she announced her involvement in an upcoming film. Fans are now buzzing with anticipation, wondering if Isaac will follow suit and confirm his participation in future Star Wars projects.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker," leaving fans and actors alike with mixed feelings. Initially, Isaac expressed reluctance to return to the franchise, humorously stating in 2020 that he would only do so if he needed "another house or something." However, by 2022, his stance had softened, and he told Variety that he had "no real feeling one way or another" and was open to any opportunities.
Isaac has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for rejecting his idea of a romantic storyline between Poe and John Boyega's character, Finn, citing that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, too, has had a complicated relationship with the franchise, expressing dissatisfaction with Disney but also indicating openness to future roles.
The excitement around Isaac's potential return is heightened by the possibility of all three main characters from the Sequel Trilogy reuniting in the upcoming Rey film. This new movie, set approximately 15 years after "The Rise of Skywalker," will follow Rey as she endeavors to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already voiced her hope for Boyega's return, and with Isaac completing the trio, a reunion seems plausible.
While fans eagerly await more details, they might have to exercise patience. Disney has repeatedly delayed its slate of Star Wars films, despite announcing over a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, does not yet have a confirmed release date, with the earliest possible slot being December 17, 2027.
For those hoping for definitive answers, Star Wars Celebration 2025 could be the place to get them. Until then, the speculation and excitement around the potential return of Poe Dameron and his fellow Sequel Trilogy stars will continue to captivate the Star Wars community.
