Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs
Gamers let out a collective groan last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This sudden change came after President Trump's import tariffs sent financial markets into a tailspin, affecting not only the U.S. but also crossing the border into Canada. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that preorders in their region are also facing delays, dashing hopes of securing a console through cross-border family connections.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup. They further clarified, "Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes the statement Nintendo of America gave to IGN on April 4, although the Canadian version omits specific mention of new tariffs. "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged."
As we approach what was supposed to be the original pre-order launch date, gamers are left in limbo, anxiously awaiting any updates and concerned about potential price hikes from the initially announced $449.99.
Meanwhile, in other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already commenced in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out quickly. Scalpers have taken advantage of the situation, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
