Netflix Cancels Stories, Yet Playable
Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief but intriguing experiment in narrative gaming. This decision might come as a surprise to many, given that the games boasted a robust player base. So, what led to the cancellation of Netflix Stories? Let's dive into the details!
The news, initially reported by Variety, aligns with a broader strategic shift within Netflix Games. The company is now directing its focus towards mobile titles, including party games, games for kids, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences designed for TV play.
Despite this shift, Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, such as Squid Game: Unleashed.
Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?
Despite facing some criticism, the Netflix Stories games have consistently been among the most-played titles on the Netflix platform. Recent reports place it at the fourth position in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which ranks games based on playtime rather than downloads.
As for the future, Love Is Blind: NYC will be the final interactive title released under the Netflix Stories banner. Following its rollout, no new games will be developed in this series. This announcement comes shortly after the Netflix Stories app began teasing its next game, The Love Contract, which was slated for release on April 8th. Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was to be an original story, not tied to any existing Netflix IP, and would have followed an actress navigating a complex love triangle involving a Hollywood star and a billionaire. Unfortunately, this game has been cancelled.
Although no new titles will be added, the existing Netflix Stories games will remain available for players to enjoy. These include popular titles such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple. However, planned sequels for games like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.
So, there you have it! If you're a fan of Netflix shows and haven't tried these games yet, you can still check them out on the Google Play Store.
