MultiVersus Players Praise Major Season 5 Gameplay Changes Ahead of Server Shutdown — and Now #SaveMultiVersus Is Trending Online

MultiVersus' impending closure in May, following the conclusion of Season 5, hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of its player base. A recent update dramatically increased combat speed, a long-requested change, leading to a surge in positive player feedback and a social media campaign, #SaveMultiVersus.

The game's final season, launched February 4th, introduced Aquaman and Lola Bunny as its last playable characters. However, the significant gameplay overhaul, featuring faster movement and combo chaining, has overshadowed the game's imminent demise. This fundamental shift, detailed in a Season 5 Combat Changes Preview video, addresses years of player complaints about sluggish gameplay present during the 2022 beta and the initial 2024 relaunch.

Patch notes attribute the speed increase to a reduction in hit pause across most attacks. Numerous characters, including Morty, LeBron, Iron Giant, and Bugs Bunny, received further speed adjustments, particularly concerning fast falls during aerial attacks. Character balancing adjustments were also made, such as altering Garnet's ringout potential.

This revitalized gameplay has created a bittersweet situation. While players enjoy a significantly improved experience, the knowledge of the game's impending shutdown on May 30th casts a shadow. The community expresses frustration and disbelief that these crucial improvements arrived so late, sparking discussions on social media and Reddit about the game's potential and missed opportunities. One Reddit user lamented that had the game launched with this refined gameplay, it could have been a major success, comparing it to the longevity of Apex Legends despite its controversial monetization.

Despite the overwhelmingly positive response to the Season 5 update, which many players claim fixed nearly all their previous concerns, Player First Games and Warner Bros. haven't indicated any change of plans. Real-money transactions were disabled on January 31st, and the premium battle pass is now free. MultiVersus' servers will shut down permanently on May 30th at 9 am PT, leaving only offline modes accessible. The community, while mourning the game's end, finds solace in sharing memes and celebrating this final, unexpectedly polished iteration of the game.
