Mario Kart: S-Tier or Not? Ranking Nintendo's Top Series
If you’re a Nintendo aficionado, then you’ve likely already caught wind of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release. As excitement builds for this new console, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit some of the iconic franchises that have defined the company over the years. For countless gamers, Nintendo has delivered some of the most beloved and bestselling game series in history. However, this list focuses on 18 of the most recognizable ones, narrowing down a selection that could easily span hundreds of entries. After all, we wouldn’t want to keep you here forever, would we? From Super Mario to The Legend of Zelda, everyone has their favorites—and perhaps a few that didn’t quite resonate as much (sorry, Kirby). I’ve taken a stab at ranking these series using one of IGN’s Tier Lists, basing my decisions solely on my personal enjoyment of each franchise over the years. You can check out the tier list here:
Simon Cardy's Nintendo Series Tier List
It probably comes as no surprise to see Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda sitting proudly in the S-tier category. These two series are not only among the most influential but also incredibly entertaining, making their placement a no-brainer. On the flip side, some readers might raise an eyebrow at my decision to place Super Smash Bros. in the C tier. Allow me to clarify—I’ve never been a fan of fighting games, and during the era when many grew attached to Smash Bros., I was engrossed in other multiplayer experiences like TimeSplitters, Guitar Hero, or Call of Duty.
