This move marks a significant shift from their proprietary Liquid Engine used for the first game to the powerful Unreal Engine 5, which was employed for Frostpunk 2.

The studio shared their vision for Frostpunk 1886 in a detailed Steam post on the same day. They aim to enhance the original with a brand-new Purpose Path, introduce long-awaited mod support, and more, all while preserving the essence of the original Frostpunk. "Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," the developers explained.
