Dynasty Warriors: Origins Battle of Hulao Gate Guide
As you embark on the Battle of Hulao Gate, the final stage of Chapter 2, prepare for a lengthy and intense battle. Your mission is clear: take down Dong Zhuo. Start by navigating to the four enemy bases located in the bottom right of the map. Once you've conquered two of these bases, a cutscene will trigger, showing a mounted cavalry led by Zhang Liao charging towards your position. Stay focused on your base conquests; defeating Zhang Liao will not only halt the cavalry but also reward you with the twin pike weapon.
After securing all the bases, you're ready to assault the gate, initiating your first significant skirmish against Dong Zhuo's forces. Amidst the chaos, your priority is to protect Cao Cao until he can execute his Grand Tactic, which will weaken the defenses significantly and pave your way towards Hulao Gate.
Lu Bu Appears
As the battle progresses, Dong Zhuo deploys his most fearsome warrior, Lu Bu, to the frontline. It's crucial to avoid direct confrontation with Lu Bu at all costs; engaging him one-on-one is a recipe for disaster. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers around the edges to maintain your morale, which Lu Bu's presence will otherwise severely deplete.
Lu Bu will eventually move to attack your main base, targeting Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to chase after him; a fundamental rule in Dynasty Warriors is to never pursue Lu Bu. Liu Bei and his forces will attempt to intercept him, buying you precious time to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This sets a timer for the mission; Liu Bei's army can only hold Lu Bu off for so long. When you receive the notification that they've retreated, ensure you're close to defeating Dong Zhuo, or Lu Bu will end the mission by defeating Yuan Shao.
Go After Dong Zhuo
Once Lu Bu departs, quickly restock on meat buns at your conquered bases if needed, then return to the gate. While Cao Cao prepares for a charge, take the opportunity to capture the bases to the north and west. With all three squads ready and your health replenished, enter the commander's circle closest to you and launch your attack.
You'll face a massive army, and Dong Zhuo will unleash his Grand Tactic, bombarding you with fireballs. To counter this, destroy the front two catapults. If possible, activate Musou Rage to break through the enemy lines and clear a path to the catapults. Focus on defeating the soldiers and officers guarding them to allow your troops to demolish the catapults, ending Dong Zhuo's first Grand Tactic.
As you advance, Dong Zhuo will deploy another Grand Tactic, this time requiring you to defeat one of his officers to stop it. Ascend the right stairs to confront this officer, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, who has sided with Dong Zhuo. Dueling her, despite her challenging combos, can prevent being overwhelmed by fighting both her and the officer simultaneously.
With the second Grand Tactic thwarted, a clear path to Dong Zhuo awaits. With your forces' high morale and potential support from Dian Wei's Grand Tactic, you can easily overpower Dong Zhuo's remaining troops. Opt for a straightforward approach to defeat Dong Zhuo, as by this point, he and his forces will be significantly weakened.
And that's how you successfully complete the Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! The game is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, ready for you to experience this epic battle and more.
