Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Hits 1M Sales in 3 Days
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has achieved remarkable success, with publisher Kepler Interactive announcing sales surpassing one million copies. The debut RPG from developer Sandfall Interactive had an impressive start, reaching 500,000 copies sold within just 24 hours of its release, and it has now doubled that figure.
"And here we are. Three days after launch. One million copies sold. Thank you for believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," the studio said on social media over the weekend.
The game's success isn't limited to sales alone. According to SteamDB, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 achieved a concurrent peak of 121,422 players on Steam over the weekend. This figure surpasses the concurrent peak of any other game from the renowned RPG developer Atlus, including Metaphor: ReFantazio, which launched in October 2024 and reached a peak of 85,961 players. It's worth noting that concurrent player counts don't reflect the total player base. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was also released on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X and S, and was available on day one through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. This suggests that the actual number of players who engaged with the game over the weekend is likely much higher, indicating the game's current popularity.
In IGN's 9/10 review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the game was hailed as a "modern RPG classic." Developed by the newly formed studio Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG heavily influenced by genre classics. It follows a group of Expeditioners in a post-apocalyptic world where a giant being known as The Paintress annually etches a number, erasing anyone older than it. The game's narrative centers on joining the crew that journeys to the continent's edge to confront and destroy The Paintress.
