DC's Absolute Universe is in full swing, with several new series on the horizon. This publishing initiative allows top comic creators to reimagine iconic characters without being constrained by existing continuity. For instance, in Absolute Batman, acclaimed writer Scott Snyder presents a bold new take: what if Bruce Wayne wasn't a billionaire and lacked access to his famous high-tech arsenal?

The first story arc is currently available for preorder on Amazon, with a release date of August 5. A new arc began with issue #7, featuring a fresh interpretation of Mr. Freeze, and issue #9 is now available. This issue starts a new storyline with a reimagined Bane. While he retains his iconic luchador physique and uses Venom, his motivations are new, and he shares an intriguing connection to Alfred Pennyworth.

IGN spoke with Absolute Batman's creative team, writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Dragotta. They discussed Bane's formidable presence and sharp intellect: “The main thing about Bane is his sheer size. That's the key,” Snyder noted. “Some thought he might be smaller, but that's not the case. We wanted a character whose silhouette makes Bruce's seem smaller by comparison.” Absolute Batman #9 also debuts this universe's versions of Dick Grayson—not yet Robin or Nightwing—and Deathstroke.
