Metro 2033 Redux Is Free Until April 16

To celebrate the 15th anniversary, a Metro game is being offered for free, but only for the next 48 hours. On April 14, developer 4A Games announced on the official Metro Twitter/X account that Metro 2033 Redux is free on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.

The team aims to give newcomers the opportunity to experience where the series began. Additionally, last month, 4A Games shared an update regarding the anniversary plans. In a March 16th blog post on their official website, the developers outlined their celebratory activities for the year.

The post stated: "Throughout this year, we will host events, promotions, and special content across Metro's social media channels to thank our players for joining us on this journey so far."

4A Games was originally founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, later expanding to Malta. The game series is based on the works of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, renowned for his sci-fi novel Metro 2033 and its subsequent books.

Despite the ongoing challenges affecting their home country, 4A Games continues to engage with themes related to the war in Ukraine. The team explained: "These circumstances are incredibly difficult and dangerous, and largely beyond our control. However, we are currently as safe as possible. We ask for your patience regarding the announcement of the next Metro title—it will be revealed when it's ready, and we are eager for you to see it."

The Next Metro Game

The developers confirmed they are currently working on two major projects: the next Metro installment and an entirely new intellectual property. While details on the new IP are scarce, they did share some insights about the upcoming Metro game.

The conflict in Ukraine has profoundly influenced the development of the next Metro. According to the studio: "As mentioned in our last update, the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022 changed how we wanted to tell the story for the next Metro game. With the lives of our Ukrainian developers directly impacted, we drew from those real-life experiences to craft an even darker narrative, making the core themes of Metro more apparent and significant than ever."
