Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

Author : Gabriella Update : Jun 28,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands as one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise yet, boasting a vast open world and a deeply layered progression system. As players dive into the richly detailed landscapes of feudal Japan, understanding how leveling and skill systems work becomes essential to fully experience everything the game has to offer. Here's a breakdown of the max levels, Knowledge Ranks, Mastery Points, and level scaling mechanics in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces a reimagined approach to progression that blends traditional XP-based leveling with innovative new systems. While XP remains central to unlocking higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, it also plays a key role in improving Naoe and Yasuke’s base stats.

Although reaching Level 35 is sufficient to access all provinces on the map, the XP grind doesn’t stop there. Contrary to early expectations of a Level 40 cap, players can actually progress all the way up to Level 60. What’s more, with the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion slated for release in late 2025, this cap may rise even further, offering additional content and progression opportunities.

What Is the Max Knowledge Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

The Knowledge Rank system marks a major evolution in the franchise’s progression design. Unlike XP, which focuses on gear and stats, Knowledge Rank centers around mindfulness and training through open-world activities. By earning Knowledge Points, players unlock new skills for both Naoe and Yasuke.

To unlock every available skill, you’ll need to reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, this isn’t the end of the journey—upon reaching Rank 6, a new Knowledge tree unlocks, introducing passive abilities that allow for deeper customization based on your preferred playstyle.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery serves as the core skill point system in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, enabling players to unlock abilities across six unique trees per protagonist. While some skills require a significant investment of Mastery Points to unlock, the sheer variety of activities available ensures there are ample opportunities to earn them.

Though a soft limit exists depending on activity completion rates, reaching a true Mastery cap will take extensive gameplay. With the Claws of Awaji expansion set to introduce new Mastery-earning methods, the depth of customization and build flexibility will only expand post-launch.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

Each region in Assassin’s Creed Shadows features its own recommended level, with Kii Province requiring a minimum of Level 35 at the start. As your XP level increases, so too does the challenge level of certain areas—though not indefinitely.

Once you hit Level 40, enemy difficulty and province scaling plateau. From Level 42 onward, the recommended level for each province typically stays about two levels below your current XP level. This balance ensures that combat remains engaging and challenging in the late game while rewarding long-term investment.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, offering a deep and evolving RPG experience. Whether you're chasing the max level, mastering every skill tree, or simply exploring the vast world, the journey promises to be as immersive as ever.
