"Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: Tier List"

Author : Henry Update : May 14,2025

The latest addition to Ubisoft's iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, setting the stage in 16th-century Japan. This 14th installment in the core series introduces players to the dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, continuing the legacy that began with Desmond Miles and Altaïr back in 2007. As fans dive into this new adventure, the question arises: where does Assassin's Creed Shadows rank among its predecessors?

With over 30 games under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries for this ranking. No mobile games, side-scrollers, VR experiences, or spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation are included in this discussion. To help you decide where Shadows fits in, I've created a personal tier list based on my enjoyment of each game:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

In my S-tier, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag stands out as the pinnacle of the series for me. The blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast creates an unparalleled Assassin's Creed experience. Joining it is Assassin's Creed 2, the game that truly launched the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might surprise some due to its size, but the Viking-themed combat and the engaging Orlog minigame won me over. Unity also sits here, with its stunning recreation of Paris during the French Revolution still breathtaking even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin's Creed 2 is overrated? Now's your chance to weigh in. Create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D rankings with the IGN community.
