For those needing a refresher, here's Netflix’s summary of the original Happy Gilmore:
At the conclusion of the first film, Sandler’s beloved underdog character finds peace after a grueling season on the golf circuit—and one unforgettable tussle with Bob Barker from The Price Is Right. Tasked with raising money to settle his grandmother’s overdue tax bills, Happy, a failed hockey player, stuns the golf world with his wild, unpredictable style during the Tour Championship.
Along the way, he gains loyal allies like Carl Weathers’ legendary one-handed golfer Chubbs Petersen and Allen Covert’s homeless caddy, while clashing with rivals including Christopher McDonald’s obnoxious Shooter McGavin and the aforementioned Bob Barker. In the end, Happy defeats the odds, saves his grandma’s home, and earns his place in sports-comedy history.
While details about how the sequel reignites Happy’s golf journey remain under wraps, one thing is certain: In real life, Happy Gilmore remains an enduring pop culture icon—golf pros included.
Production news first emerged in March 2024, with Netflix officially greenlighting the project in May. Directed by Kyle Newacheck and written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler, Happy Gilmore 2 promises to deliver more absurdity, heart, and hilarious moments on the fairway.
