May 2025 PS Plus Game Tied to Hollywood Film

One of PlayStation Plus's May 2025 free games appears to have leaked early.

While Sony hasn't officially confirmed anything, rumors suggest horror adventure Until Dawn will be offered as a free title for PlayStation subscribers next month. Key art hints this may be the 2024 remastered version rather than the 2014 original, though confirmation is still pending.

PlayStation Plus is Sony's premium online service offering monthly free games, timed trials, multiplayer access, and exclusive discounts. The service also provides an extensive catalog of modern and retro titles for Extra and Premium members, with the monthly free games available across all subscription tiers.

As discussed on the PlayStation subreddit (via PushSquare), this potential free offering may serve as promotion for the new Until Dawn film adaptation that premiered recently. Our review found it underwhelming, scoring it 5/10 in IGN's Until Dawn movie review: "The film wastes the game's horror potential, delivering instead a disjointed collection of horror tropes."

This matches our evaluation of the 2024 remaster, which we described in IGN's Until Dawn Remastered review as "an overpriced rehash offering little new content." The original 2015 release by Supermassive Games performed better, receiving a 7.5/10 score from us.

Meanwhile, 22 games are scheduled for removal from PlayStation Plus next month, including major titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and Sony exclusives Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. Notably, the Resistance titles will become completely unavailable on modern platforms after their removal.
