Square Enix Unveils Kingdom Hearts 4, Promises to Meet Fan Expectations
Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and reassuring message posted on social media. Accompanied by a series of captivating images, the developer confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel is very much in the works.
Just a day prior, Square Enix announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG intended for mobile devices. Amidst this news, the company took the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to Kingdom Hearts 4, stating they are "hard at work" on the project.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" declared Square Enix in their first of two posts. This message was accompanied by a collage of screenshots showcasing various elements of the game, including characters, cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and a glimpse of a formidable enemy.

In their second post, Square Enix expressed gratitude for the fans' excitement and anticipation, stating, "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first significant news about Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease back in January. Despite the game being unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will finally steer the narrative towards its conclusion after 22 years and 18 games, adding to the anticipation surrounding the title.
Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was canceled because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
