Spider-Man: Brand New Day Arrives Before Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Earth's Mightiest Heroes reunite on the big screen, following Disney's announcement last night of significant delays for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday is now scheduled for release seven months later, on December 18, 2026. Secret Wars will follow a year after that, on December 17, 2027. Amid these changes, discussion has also intensified around Spider-Man's next cinematic adventure.

Tom Holland's Peter Parker is still slated to return next year in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day, arriving on July 31, 2026. This film will continue Peter's story after the events of No Way Home, where his identity was mysteriously erased from global memory.

Before Disney's schedule shift, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was positioned to release after Avengers: Doomsday, essentially creating a Tom Holland-led MCU interlude between the two major Avengers films. Previous reports suggested Disney and Sony were developing another storyline involving multiverse chaos, fitting the MCU's current narrative era.

Now, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day—which hasn't started filming yet—preceding both Avengers movies, fans are hopeful this allows the next Spider-Man story more creative freedom, potentially leading to a more grounded, street-level narrative within the Marvel universe.

Consider the original plan: Avengers: Doomsday would likely have ended on a major cliffhanger, similar to Avengers: Infinity War, compelling audiences to return for the resolution in the sequel. As a key Avenger, Spider-Man would almost certainly be involved—or his absence would need explanation. In that context, Brand New Day would have to either follow up on these events, be set before them, or somehow sidestep the overarching stakes.

"That completely changes the premise for Spider-Man 4," one fan commented on Reddit regarding the delay and the film's new placement. "At least in how we assumed it HAD to fit between both films timeline-wise. Now it seems it won't."

"If Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn't delayed as well, it probably confirms it won't be a multiverse Battleworld movie," another fan speculated, referencing the isolated dimension where Marvel heroes were stranded during the original Secret Wars comic storyline.

Overall, many Spider-Man enthusiasts are excited to see the character return to his roots, swinging through the streets of New York instead of fighting cosmic battles alongside the Avengers. For these fans, Disney's delay is welcome news.

"This is the best Spider-Man 4 update we've received," one supporter wrote.

"With [Brand New Day] releasing before Doomsday, it fully opens the door for a grounded story, which aligns with recent rumors and casting news," added another, pointing to online speculation about villains suited for a classic, New York-based plot.

Earlier this month, Liza Colón-Zayas, known for her role as Tina Marrero on FX’s The Bear, was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Fans theorize she may play the mother of Miles Morales—the alternate Spider-Man widely expected to debut in live-action following his popularity in Sony's Spider-Verse animated films.

As part of its revised schedule announced last night, Disney also removed an untitled Marvel project originally set for February 13, 2026. Many believe this was a placeholder for the long-delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which now appears likely to skip this phase of the MCU entirely, if it happens at all.

Other Marvel film dates, previously set for November 6, 2026 and November 5, 2027, have been relabeled as "Untitled Disney" releases. If these are not MCU-related, the Marvel cinematic universe will have a noticeably lighter film slate in the coming years.

The rest of 2025 will see The Fantastic Four: First Steps hit theaters in July, while the TV series Ironheart and Wonder-Man are scheduled to premiere on Disney+.

Next year's Disney+ lineup will include the second season of Daredevil: Born Again (expected in spring), a Punisher special presentation, and Vision Quest, the Paul Bettany-led series that has quietly begun production.
