PS5 Price Rises Again in Europe, Australia, New Zealand
Sony has announced an increase in the recommended retail prices (RRPs) for PlayStation 5 consoles in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, effective from April 14. This decision comes in response to a challenging economic environment characterized by high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates. The details of these price adjustments were officially confirmed via a post on the PlayStation Blog.
In Europe, the PS5 Digital Edition will now cost €500, with no change to the price of the standard PS5 with a disc drive. In the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at £430, also maintaining the current price for the standard model. For customers in Australia, the standard PS5 with a disc drive will be available for AUD $830, and the PS5 Digital Edition for AUD $750. In New Zealand, the standard PS5 with a disc drive will be priced at NZD $950, while the PS5 Digital Edition will cost NZD $860. Notably, the price of the PS5 Pro remains unchanged.
This marks the second wave of price increases for the PS5, following similar adjustments in 2022. As a result, the PS5 is now significantly more expensive in several regions compared to its launch prices. In Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition is €100 and £70 more expensive, respectively, than at launch, rising from €400 and £360. In Australia, the standard PS5 has increased by AUD $80 from its initial price of AUD $750, and the digital edition has seen a AUD $150 increase from AUD $600. In New Zealand, the standard PS5 is now NZD $130 higher than its launch price of NZD $820, while the digital version has gone up by NZD $210 from NZD $650.
Interestingly, the RRP of the PS5 disc drive is being reduced to €80 in Europe, £70 in the UK, AUD $125 in Australia, and NZD $140 in New Zealand.
