Nintendo Cautious on Switch 2 Sales Over Tariffs
Analysts describe Nintendo's Switch 2 sales projection as "cautious" given ongoing tariff uncertainties.
In its latest financial report, Nintendo anticipates selling 15 million Switch 2 consoles and 45 million games by March 31, 2026. The highly anticipated console launches on June 5.
The company clarified its forecast accounts for current U.S. tariff rates effective since April 10, though it acknowledged potential adjustments could impact projections. "We're closely monitoring market developments to adapt accordingly," Nintendo stated.
Niko Partners' Director of Research, Daniel Ahmad, characterized the 15 million target as "prudent," tweeting that Nintendo appears to be "accounting for tariff volatility, pricing challenges, and production uncertainties despite strong early orders."
Ahmad noted Nintendo might revise projections if tariffs ease, but cautioned: "The immediate challenge involves ripple effects already complicating the launch environment, plus potential tariff increases."
Notably, achieving 15 million sales would make Switch 2 one of history's most successful console launches, surpassing the original Switch's first-year record of 14.87 million units.
Switch 2 demand appears overwhelming. Following tariff-related delays, preorders launched April 24 at $449.99 — and sold out predictably fast. Nintendo has notified U.S. My Nintendo Store customers that high demand may delay launch-day deliveries.
