NetEase Games is making a significant shift in its Marvel Rivals post-launch strategy, aiming to shorten its seasons and introduce at least one new hero every month. This move is designed to maintain the game's live service momentum and keep players engaged.

The new approach was hinted at in the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, which unveiled exciting details about Season 2. Scheduled to kick off on April 11, Season 2 will introduce Emma Frost as the new Vanguard at launch, followed by Ultron, whose class will be disclosed closer to his mid-season release. Both characters are set to bring fresh abilities to the game, but the real transformation in how heroes impact gameplay will begin in Season 3.

In Marvel Rivals Season 3, which does not yet have a set release date, NetEase plans to reduce season lengths from three months to two. This change will accelerate the pace of major content updates while still fulfilling the team's commitment to introducing at least one new hero every half-season. After Emma Frost's debut next week, players will only have to wait a month and a half for Ultron, and subsequent waits will be even shorter.

Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun Chen elaborated on these plans in the Dev Vision video, stating, "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver a fun and engaging experience for you all. Social media feedback has added pressure to keep the game as thrilling as it was at launch in December, and we agree with the sentiment."

Chen emphasized NetEase's goal to keep the audience's excitement alive, likening it to the game's opening months. He highlighted the team's ambition for Marvel Rivals to fulfill players' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes by introducing new modes and a diverse roster of characters. After extensive internal discussions and evaluations, NetEase will adjust its systems to manage the increased content flow, with more details to be shared before Season 3's launch.

Just hours ago, NetEase pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 2, announcing a shift from the vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This update promises new outfits, maps, and characters, with additional information set to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Since its launch in December, Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, attracting 10 million players in just three days. Available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game saw a peak of 480,990 concurrent players on Steam at launch. Season 1 in January further boosted the game's popularity, reaching 644,269 concurrent players and securing its place as the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform.

Despite a recent decline in concurrent players, Marvel Rivals remains a top choice among gamers on Steam. The upcoming Season 2 and the planned changes for Season 3 are expected to reinvigorate the player base.
