Longvinter Exits Early Access on Steam: PC's Animal Crossing Rival
After an extensive three-year journey in development, the team behind Longvinter has triumphantly exited early access on Steam with the launch of version 1.0. This milestone comes packed with updates that rejuvenate the gaming experience for both new adventurers and seasoned veterans alike.
The most significant addition to Longvinter's expansive archipelago is the introduction of oil rigs. Players now have the opportunity to extract oil, refine it into fuel, and engage in thrilling battles against mercenaries from the notorious LRI, who are vying for control of these vital supply lines. Complementing these new mechanics, players can participate in fresh events like helicopter crashes, which offer access to valuable tactical gear, and hourly underground arena fights where they can compete for enticing rewards.
The game world of Longvinter has become even more vibrant with the addition of new wildlife species, including lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats. These animals can now be tamed and used as mounts, adding a new layer of exploration and interaction. The update also brings a wealth of new items to the game, ranging from hats that provide buffs, combat vests, a variety of weapons, and explosives, to kitchen recipes and interactive objects for building and decorating. Players can now construct oil refineries, refrigerators, microwaves, power poles, and defensive turrets. Additionally, significant adjustments have been made to weapon balance, ensuring a more dynamic and engaging combat experience.
Looking forward, the eagerly anticipated 1.1 update promises to introduce farming mechanics, a revamped tutorial designed to ease newcomers into the game, apartment rentals, and shared community spaces. The developers have also confirmed that Longvinter will expand its horizons beyond the PC platform with a planned launch on PlayStation in 2026, broadening its appeal and accessibility to a wider audience.
