On March 7th, 2025, Tripwire, the developers behind Killing Floor 3 (KF3), took to the game’s official Bluesky account to announce the delay. The studio stated that after a thorough review of feedback from the recent closed beta, they recognized that the game did not meet their standards or the expectations of their fans.
"We’ve made the difficult decision to postpone Killing Floor 3’s launch to a yet-to-be-determined date later in 2025. Our goal is not only to push the franchise forward but also to preserve the essence that fans have come to love. Following our closed beta, we’ve identified key areas such as performance/stability, UI/UX, lighting, and weapon feel that require further refinement," Tripwire shared in their Bluesky post, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a polished product.
The gaming community voiced their disappointment on various platforms. Players described the beta build as "insanely clunky and clumsy," and a "glitch-ridden, unpolished wreck." On Reddit, user Captain_Pugman criticized the game, stating, "At what point did you forget what made Killing Floor special? Killing Floor 3 seems to be trying to be everything except what it should be: a Killing Floor game." Common complaints also included the shift away from traditional horror elements to a more futuristic sci-fi theme, and the inability to freely choose characters and classes separately due to the character-locked system during the beta.
Tripwire ended their announcement on an optimistic note, expressing hope for the future: "We are eager to showcase a more refined version of Killing Floor 3. We will keep you updated as we progress and thank you for your continued patience and support."
Pre-Orders Will Be Refunded Automatically Except For Steam
In response to the delay, Senior Community Manager Yoshiro provided details on the Tripwire Interactive Killing Floor 3 forums about the handling of digital pre-orders. Once the delay is updated across all platforms, the refund and cancellation processes will commence.
For users on PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Game Store, pre-orders will be automatically canceled and refunded. However, PlayStation users in the United States have the option to either cancel their pre-order for a refund or keep it for the new release date. If no action is taken within a specified timeframe, the pre-order will automatically be canceled and refunded.
Steam users, however, will need to manually initiate a refund by canceling their order and submitting a refund request through Steam's support system. Those who pre-ordered through other third-party platforms or vendors will need to follow the specific refund policies of those services.
