Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Revealed for Nintendo Switch 2
It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers with an unexpected twist. During today's Nintendo Direct, we discovered that Koei Tecmo is developing a new entry in the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, set to launch this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment introduces a new chapter in the Hyrule Warriors saga, focusing on the characters from the ancient history segments of Tears of the Kingdom. The game features Zelda alongside Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders, unfolding the narrative of Zelda's time-traveling journey. In this prequel, Zelda collaborates with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda wielding magic, Rauru with his distinctive sword-spear, and brief appearances of other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its fresh take on the Breath of the Wild backstory, earning a 9/10 rating from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
It will be intriguing to see how Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment might diverge from the established lore of Tears of the Kingdom. For all the latest announcements from the Nintendo Direct, check out our comprehensive coverage right here.
