Lanterns is poised to be a groundbreaking DC TV show, drawing inspiration from acclaimed detective dramas such as True Detective and Slow Horses. The series will follow Chandler's Hal Jordan as he teams up with Pierre's John Stewart to unravel a murder mystery that promises to plunge into even deeper, darker secrets. This show is a confirmed piece of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, which also encompasses projects like Creature Commando and the upcoming Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow films.
Developed by the creative minds of Damon Lindelof, known for Lost, alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King, Lanterns is set to adopt a darker, more grounded tone. James Gunn has described it as "very grounded, very believable, very real," a tone that fans might not typically associate with a Green Lanterns series.
Kyle Chandler, renowned for his role in the drama Friday Night Lights, will bring an older, seasoned perspective to Hal Jordan. Meanwhile, Aaron Pierre, who made waves with his performance in Rebel Ridge, will embody John Stewart. Fans can mark their calendars for a targeted premiere in 2026, coinciding with the release of the Supergirl movie.
Stay tuned for more updates on Lanterns as we approach its much-anticipated debut.
