First Glimpse of Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridge Revealed
Nintendo has given us our first detailed glimpse at a game cartridge for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch next month. The latest video from the Nintendo Today app showcases the official Switch 2 carry case, which features slots for up to six Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2 cartridges, ensuring you can keep your games organized and safe.
As previously announced, Switch 2 cartridges maintain the same size and shape as their Switch 1 counterparts, allowing the Switch 2 to use a single cartridge slot for games from both console generations. However, there's a notable distinction: the color of the cartridges. Switch 2 cartridges are distinctively red, a design choice that appears to be consistent across all titles, not limited to just the Mario Kart World cartridge shown in the video. If you don't have the Nintendo Today app, you can view the video shared by OatmealDome on X / Twitter.
The top of the cartridge's printed design sticker now features a Switch 2 logo, differentiating it from the original Nintendo Switch design found on earlier cartridges.

Here's a look inside the official Switch 2 carrying case. It has room for the console with the Joy-Con 2 attached, six cartridges, and two Joy-Con 2 straps.
(Also, Switch 2 cartridges seem to be the same size as Switch 1 cartridges, to no one's surprise.)

Apart from the color and logo, Switch 2 cartridges remain identical to their predecessors, including the notorious foul-tasting coating that Nintendo applies to prevent accidental ingestion. "We don't want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption," Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta explained to GameSpot. "We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you'll spit it out."
