Formovie Episode One Review: Is It Projection Heaven?
At Droid Gamers, we frequently receive an assortment of tech gadgets to review, but a projector was a fresh surprise. Given its ability to stream mobile games onto a larger screen, the Formovie Episode One seemed like an intriguing piece to explore.
Designed to cater to those on a tighter budget, the Episode One fulfills its promise admirably, despite a few shortcomings. Priced to be more accessible than the typically exorbitant projectors, it offers great value.
Right out of the box, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the substantial feel of higher-end models, its lighter weight—coming in at just three pounds—enhances its portability, making it an excellent choice for on-the-go use.
One potential downside for some users might be the limited connectivity options, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, given the unit's cost, these options should suffice for most people's needs.
In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own within its price range. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. During our tests, it struggled in bright sunlight but excelled in darker environments, as expected. Every film, TV show, and streamed game we tested was displayed clearly.
For optimal image quality, we found that the projector needed to be positioned at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output from the built-in speaker was serviceable, though somewhat tinny. For a more satisfying audio experience, connecting an external speaker to the Episode One would be advisable.
The user interface of the Episode One is a standout in its category. The setup and operation are straightforward, and its budget-friendly approach actually makes it more user-friendly than some of the pricier, more complex projectors we've encountered.
All things considered, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any one area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that will meet the needs of most casual users effectively.
