Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Set for Nintendo Switch 2, Square Enix Confirms
In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced exciting news for fans: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, an enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake, offers players an enriched experience of the first chapter in the trilogy remaking the iconic 1997 PlayStation 1 RPG. Intergrade, available on PS5 and PC, boasts upgraded graphics and lighting compared to its PS4 counterpart, and includes the Intermission DLC, featuring the adventures of the spirited ninja, Yuffie, in Midgar.
Hamaguchi shared that the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2 will enable the game to be fully realized on Nintendo's next handheld platform. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he explained. This development opens up new possibilities for gamers, as Hamaguchi noted, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." The portability of the Switch 2 not only enhances convenience but also fosters a community where players can easily share their progress and discuss the game.
Additionally, the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will feature GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time during gameplay. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and he hopes to strengthen the partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, saying, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that subsequent entries, including Rebirth and the final installment of the trilogy, may also make their way to Nintendo's new console.
The announcement marks a significant return for the Final Fantasy series to Nintendo consoles, harking back to its origins before the franchise transitioned to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With this move, fans can finally experience the remade world of FFVII on Nintendo hardware.
