"Dune: Awakening to Launch Fully, Offers Optional DLCs Without Subscription"
Funcom, the developer behind the eagerly anticipated *Dune: Awakening*, has provided a comprehensive update on the game's business model and post-launch strategy, confirming that the game will have a full launch on May 20, rather than entering an Early Access phase. This multiplayer survival game, deeply rooted in the universe of Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel and its cinematic adaptations, will not require a subscription despite its MMO classification.
Instead of a subscription-based model, Funcom has committed to expanding *Dune: Awakening* through a series of free updates that will introduce new content and features. The studio plans to adhere to a "classic business model" by offering optional downloadable content (DLCs). Funcom's dedication to its titles is evident in its ongoing support for games like *Anarchy Online* and *Conan Exiles*, which continue to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions long after their initial release. The developer assures that *Dune: Awakening* will follow suit, promising a continuous stream of enhancements and new additions.
*Dune: Awakening* is set to launch with three distinct editions. The standard edition is priced at $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition, available for $69.99, and the Ultimate Edition, priced at $89.99, offer players a five-day head start and a variety of exclusive items. The Deluxe and Ultimate Editions come with a Season Pass, granting access to four DLCs, with the first available at launch.
The Deluxe Edition includes the armor of the Sardaukar, the fearsome military force that players will encounter in the game. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all the benefits of the Deluxe Edition and adds Paul Atreides’ iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, complete with building pieces, placeables, and decorations.
Pre-ordering any edition of *Dune: Awakening* grants players a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, alongside the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the iconic desert mouse.
Funcom has also detailed *Dune: Awakening’s* PC features and system requirements, confirming support for Nvidia’s DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, AMD’s FSR, and Intel’s XeSS 2 technologies.
