Darth Jar Jar Joins Fortnite: Fans Shocked at 1 Million XP Requirement
Fortnite's latest Star Wars season has introduced a major new skin that's causing a stir among fans: Darth Jar Jar. However, acquiring this skin is no easy feat, as it's locked behind a substantial 1.28 million XP requirement. Even after grinding out the XP, players must still shell out 1500 V-Bucks (approximately $13) to purchase the skin.
While Fortnite has previously implemented XP requirements for skins, this move is particularly notable due to the high anticipation surrounding Darth Jar Jar as a key cosmetic release in this condensed Star Wars season. With the season set to end on June 7, time is running out for players to earn the necessary XP, especially for those who have already completed their battle pass.
The reaction from the community has been mixed. One fan on Reddit expressed frustration, saying, "I was so hyped for this skin and was fine with it being behind a pay wall, after all it is just another skin. But this whole locked behind an XP wall is ridiculous. You want me to earn the right to give you money? I immediately closed the game." The simultaneous release of a regular Jar Jar Binks skin, which requires no XP but still costs 1500 V-Bucks, has added to the dissatisfaction. If players want all the accessories for both the Sith and Gungan versions of Jar Jar, the total cost could climb to 6,500 V-Bucks, which is a significant investment.
However, not everyone is upset. Some players argue that Jar Jar is just a cosmetic item and optional. One fan shared their experience, saying, "It wasn't that hard to earn the XP took me around 8/9 hrs. I had no plans on Saturday. I did it in 3 sittings, but all in one day. I played Rocket Racing and Ranked and did Alignment Challenges to farm as much XP as possible. Nothing is making anyone get every item in the Shop you can just pick and choose, and the fact he was just 1500 V-Bucks when Deathstroke was 1,800 V-Bucks I wasn't bothered at all by the price."
As the Star Wars season progresses, Fortnite is set to focus on Mandalorian warriors this week, with a highly-anticipated customizable Mandalorian skin coming to the Shop. The season will conclude with a live narrative event on June 7, where fans expect to engage with the Death Star that has been looming over the game's Island throughout the season.
In other news, Epic Games' ongoing legal battle with Apple has intensified, with Fortnite being blocked from returning to the iPhone App Store in the US.
