Owlcat Games, the acclaimed developer behind the successful Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, has unveiled their next venture into the grimdark universe with Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. This announcement came during the thrilling Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase, where fans got their first glimpse at what promises to be another immersive narrative-driven tactical RPG.
In Dark Heresy, players will embody the role of an Inquisitor, a key enforcer within the Imperium tasked with rooting out heresy. The official description invites players to:
Step into the shadows as an acolyte of the Inquisition in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a second narrative-driven tactical RPG set in the beloved grimdark universe. Set against the backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption — from loyal Imperial subjects, such as a veteran Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, to nefarious xenos, including a bird-like Kroot mercenary.
The game promises a deep dive into the complexities of the Inquisition, with intricate investigations, a turn-based combat system, and choices that bear significant consequences. Dark Heresy aims to enhance the atmospheric experience of the Imperium's feared organization, building upon the successful foundation laid by Rogue Trader. Players can expect fully voiced dialogues, further enriching the storytelling experience.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is slated for release on PC, available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. While no specific release window has been provided, the anticipation is already building.
