"2025 Alienware Aurora 16, 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available"
Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its new mainstream lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, named the "Alienware Aurora." The initial 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, distinct from the desktop version, is the more budget-friendly option, featuring an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the other hand, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the premium model, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, priced at $2,299.99. Both models are expected to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both laptops offer the option to upgrade to RTX 5060 graphics, although these are currently on preorder with no specified shipping date as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops depart from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These laptops adopt a more subdued and sleek design, resembling standard laptops with a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Alienware Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard backlighting, reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their unassuming exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X boast powerful gaming hardware and a robust Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter, thanks to more efficient components like the low voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP rating. In contrast, the Aurora 16X is slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate enhanced cooling, offering a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a maximum 115W TGP rating.
Compared to the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000, both Aurora models are significantly more affordable. They are also more travel-friendly, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and up to 30% thinner than a comparable Area-51 16" laptop. Given the potential upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices, as noted by Tom's Hardware, significant price drops for these models are unlikely in the near future.
Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model
For gamers in search of a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Aurora 16X is the clear choice. With an additional $300, you gain a markedly superior laptop with several enhancements that justify the cost. The key upgrades include:
- Better display: 2560x1600 240Hz G-Sync versus 2560x1600 120Hz.
- More powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX versus Intel Core 9 270H.
- Higher TGP rating for RTX 5070: 115W TGP versus 85W TGP.
- Double the RAM: 64GB versus 32GB.
- Double the storage: 2TB versus 1TB.
- Better material: Metal top and bottom versus metal top only.
- RGB keyboard.
- Thunderbolt 4.0.
